Michelle Tucker 07C

Trial Attorney | U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Educational Opportunities Section | Washington, D.C.

Michelle Tucker has dedicated her legal career to addressing issues of educational equity. First working as an attorney with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of the General Counsel, Tucker collaborated with leaders to develop policies and regulations to ensure students’ rights were protected. Her accomplishments largely focused on the enforcement of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits sex discrimination at educational institutions, and led Tucker to receive the Secretary’s 2016 Peer Recognition Award from then-Education Secretary John B. King Jr. In 2019, she joined the Educational Opportunities Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division as a trial attorney. She values the opportunity to continue advancing civil rights jurisprudence in an education setting, and she leads investigations and litigation to ensure students are not being discriminated against on the basis of sex, disability, national origin, and race.
