Sylvia Johnson 03C

Sylvia Johnson is board certified in adult and child and adolescent psychiatry. She began her post-secondary education at Emory, where she earned a bachelor’s in neuroscience and behavioral biology. Johnson then deferred her medical school acceptances to teach English in Japan for a year before returning to the United States to attend medical school at Howard University. Johnson went on to serve as an officer in the U.S. Army for nine years. She held several leadership positions, including the chair of the Department of Behavioral Health at Fort Hood, Texas. Upon finishing her career with the Army, Johnson opened a behavioral health clinic in Orlando, Florida, and was instrumental in opening the University of Central Florida/HCA Orlando Psychiatry Residency Program as the associate program director. Now living in New Zealand with her husband and four children, she continues to manage her practice from overseas and serves as an affiliate professor of psychiatry at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine.
