Bringing the classroom into communities
Ken Carter 87Ox 89C felt at home the second he arrived on Oxford’s campus as a first-generation student. Since then, he has been a behavioral epidemiologist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, served as interim dean of Oxford College, and is currently the Charles Howard Candler Professor of Psychology. Now he’s looking to bridge the gap between Oxford and local communities.
Join Josh Newton as he talks with Carter about his new role leading the Center for Public Scholarship and Engagement at Oxford. The new center will connect Oxford scholars with communities surrounding the college through two annual events: a faculty research academy and an all-ages public festival. Ideas Festival Emory will feature programs and activities with musicians, authors, scientists, artists, poets, chefs, and filmmakers.
