Sights and secrets of Lullwater Preserve

Explore the sights and sounds of Lullwater Preserve as James Johnson, university landscape architect, reveals the unique history of the 140-acre woods. While Emory purchased the property in 1958 with the thought of campus expansion, throughout the years the university has preserved the land.

Join Josh Newton and Johnson as they walk through the preserve. See Lullwater House, the student “bucket list” swimming pool, and the original bathhouses, where guests changed to swim in the previous spring-fed pool. Hear about the hydroelectric dam that once powered an entire farm. Plus, discover lesser-known facts about Lullwater, like which Southern rock band had a photoshoot near the dam in the 1970s and where you can find the site of a former nuclear research facility.
