The strange history of Briarcliff Mansion

In the first of a two-part series, take a walk through the old Briarcliff Mansion on the 42-acre estate that once belonged to Asa “Buddie” Candler Jr., second son of the founder of The Cola-Cola Company. Join Josh Newton and Gary Hauk, Emory historian emeritus, as they tour the grand music hall, the sunlit solarium, and the terraced gardens.

Learn how a little sibling rivalry turned into the magnificent creation of Briarcliff and how it would later become the first addiction center in the state. Plus, hear how Candler’s life of unique passions and eccentricities led him to develop a zoo on the property complete with lions, tigers, and bears (oh my).
