Meet Garjae Lavien, a board-certified reconstructive urologic surgeon at Regions Hospital. Lavien’s interest in medicine was sparked by a lifelong curiosity about the interplay between science and the human experience, which he further explored by majoring in neuroscience and behavioral biology at Emory. After graduating, he attended medical school at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he was accepted as an intramural fellow at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and became a member of Honor Court and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Following medical school, Lavien completed a residency in Urologic Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center and fellowship training in advanced reconstructive urology and genitourinary cancer survivorship at Duke University. He serves as chair for the departments of urology, urogynecology, and sexual medicine at HealthPartners and is a member of the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons.

When he’s not working, Garjae enjoys traveling with his wife and kids, weightlifting, kettlebells, and heirloom gardening. He says Emory helped nurture his critical thinking skills and created an ecosystem that allowed him to explore his passions.
