Assistant Professor
Kuwait University College of Law
Kuwait City, Kuwait

Humoud Y. Al-Fadhli 22L is advancing global conversations on justice and accountability as an assistant professor of international criminal law at Kuwait University College of Law. Al-Fadhli has also held academic appointments around the world, including as a visiting scholar at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, University of Cambridge.

His work bridges courtroom experience and academic insight, focusing on international criminal, humanitarian, and human rights law.

Before entering academia, Al-Fadhli served as a state attorney for the government of Kuwait, representing the state in both trial and appellate courts. Those years in public service, advocating in complex legal cases, deepened his belief in the law’s power to uphold fairness and human dignity — principles that continue to guide his teaching and research.

A full academic scholarship from Kuwait University led him to Emory Law, where he earned his doctor of juridical science degree. His dissertation, “Prosecuting Superior Responsibility in International Criminal Law: From Tokyo and Nuremberg to The Hague and Beyond,” explores how international tribunals have defined the responsibility of military and civilian leaders for crimes committed by subordinates. The work was defended without revisions, a rare distinction, and published by Asser Press.

Through his scholarship and mentorship, Al-Fadhli is shaping future legal thinkers who are committed to strengthening international law and human rights around the world.
