Assistant Professor, Research Track | Emory University, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing | Atlanta, GA

Roxana Chicas is driven to use nursing science to increase research inclusiveness through engagement and empowerment of farmworker communities. As a bilingual, bicultural nursing scholar, she researches the health effects that environmental and occupational exposures have on farmworkers. Her passion for nursing science began as a student at Georgia Perimeter College, when she was selected to be in the Bridges to Baccalaureate Program at Emory's Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. The research immersion experiences that Emory provided sparked her curiosity for nursing science and her admiration of the scientific community. Two weeks after obtaining her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Emory, she became a doctoral student under the direction of Dean Linda McCauley. Chicas’ journey to becoming a nurse scientist and an assistant professor is largely due to the mentorship and support of McCauley and the rigorous training she received at Emory.
