Tasmin Mahfuz 09C is an award-winning journalist and news anchor known for elevating underrepresented voices and delivering community-centered journalism. She currently anchors a top-rated newscast for WGAL News in Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna Valley and is nominated for three 2025 Mid-Atlantic Emmys for Best News Anchor, Best Evening Newscast, and Best Human Interest – Long Form Content.
Before WGAL, Mahfuz made history as the first Bengali American to anchor a nightly newscast in the United States at DC News Now in Washington, D.C., where she also hosted and executive produced Capitol Review, a public affairs program connecting policymakers with the public. Through her reporting, she has given voice to Uyghur activists seeking justice for detained family members, young Iranian American human rights advocates, nonprofit leaders navigating global crises, and more.
At Emory, Mahfuz earned a degree in international studies and linguistics, which led to an internship at the United Nations. She also served as Emory’s ambassador to the Forté Foundation. She credits her time at Emory for fostering an appreciation of culture, language, and identity — values she continues to bring into journalism.
