Chief Credit Officer
Global Lending Services
Greenville, South Carolina

Meet Thomas Hancock, a driven entrepreneur who says he has built his career on obsessive curiosity. While at Emory College, Hancock’s passion for cars led him to work with and eventually start several businesses related to manufacturing and software development for BMWs. This entrepreneurial spirit guided him to pursue a bachelor’s of business administration, the courses for which taught him the building blocks of accounting and finance.

After early career stints in specialty finance consulting and investment banking, Hancock again answered his entrepreneurial call when, in 2012, he helped found Global Lending Services LLC (GLS). Today, Hancock serves as chief credit officer, helping GLS grow to become one of the largest non-bank auto finance companies in the United States, having employed more than 4,000 associates and making more than $17 billion in loans to meet the essential transportation needs of American families.

Hancock attributes much of his career success to those around him who provided opportunities to stay curious, challenge himself, and continue learning. He believes that the people, opportunities, and advice he received have been invaluable to his professional and personal growth.

When he’s not working, Hancock enjoys tinkering with various projects, spending time with his wife (also an Emory alum) and their two boys, and preparing for the arrival of their baby girl. He finds fulfillment in the essential service GLS provides to families and the economy, and the depth of interpersonal relationships within the company.

Emory played a significant role in Thomas’s success, providing a foundation in key business principles and opening doors to initial career opportunities in consulting and investment banking.
