My name is Abdulkareem Babalola Murtala, and I am a second-year Master of Public Health (MPH) student at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, specializing in Health Policy and Management. My academic and professional focus is on cardiovascular epidemiology, with a particular interest in the intersections of heart health and mental health and the role of health policy in enhancing outcomes in these areas. I am currently a Graduate Research Assistant with the Emory Program in Cardiovascular Outcomes Research and Epidemiology (EPICORE), where I contribute to the Vietnam Era Twin Study of Electrophysiology in Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (VETS-EP). Before beginning my MPH, I earned my Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MB.Ch.B) and worked as a Medical Doctor. This clinical background provides me with a solid foundation that I now apply to my public health research and policy work. My long-term goal is to bridge the gap between clinical practice and health policy, focusing on developing policies that improve cardiovascular health outcomes, particularly in underserved communities.
