Alvin Tran 12PH

Assistant Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Assistant Professor of Public Health | University of New Haven | Orange, CT

As a first-generation college graduate, Alvin Tran has overcome numerous obstacles to obtain what he describes as his dream career. Today, he helps others achieve their own goals. Tran is an assistant professor of public health and the assistant provost for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut. In dual roles, he spearheads key initiatives across his campus to promote inclusion and belonging and serves as a mentor to students from varied backgrounds, including those who are also the first in their families to pursue a four-year college degree. Beyond the classroom, Tran is a prolific researcher who aims to address health disparities burdening racial and sexual minority communities across the country. In 2020, he was recognized by Connecticut Magazine for his work in empowering youth to become change agents in public health.
