Sharvil Patel 21C

Conceived by Sharvil Patel 21C and run by a staff of Emory third- and fourth-year students, OmniMed has a mission to make access to healthcare in the United States more equitable. Currently, an uninsured person has three choices for healthcare: pay out of pocket, forego treatment, or visit an already overburdened system of free clinics or emergency room care. OmniMed has created an advocacy model to modernize free clinics with the use of technology tools. Patel has led the efforts to develop relationships across the Atlanta healthcare community to increase equity while in partnership with Grady and another leading Atlanta-based higher education institution to design an app to reduce inappropriate use of the Emergency Room as general care. Along with the technology and professional contacts, Patel is developing a volunteer program for college students with the goal of increasing healthcare access for underserved populations while developing socially conscious future leaders.
